We get a version of this question a lot: “I just want to find the video on a page and watch it — do I have to download it?” Or: “I clicked a video and now I’m on a download page. Did I commit to something?”
The answer to both is no. VideoFetch is a tool for finding the video on a webpage. Downloading it is just one of the things you can do once it’s found — not the only thing, and not something you’re ever required to do. Plenty of people use VideoFetch every day without saving a single file. This post explains the difference and shows what else you can do.
Extracting and Downloading Are Two Separate Steps
It helps to think of VideoFetch as doing two different jobs, one after the other.
Extracting is the first job. You paste a page link, press play in the virtual browser, and VideoFetch pulls the actual video out from behind the page — past the ads, the pop-ups, and the player — and lists it in the Detected Videos panel. At this point the video has been found and separated from everything around it. That’s extraction, and it’s finished before you’ve saved anything.
Downloading is the second, optional job. It’s what happens only when you click the Download button: VideoFetch prepares the file and sends it to your device.
Many people only ever need the first job. Maybe you want to watch a video without the clutter of the original page. Maybe you want to check which of several clips is the one you’re after. Maybe you just need the video’s own web address. All of that happens without downloading.
The “Download Page” Is Really a “Video Page”
Here’s where the confusion usually starts. When you click an entry in the Detected Videos list, VideoFetch takes you to a page with a big Download button on it. It’s natural to assume clicking the video meant “download this.”
It didn’t. Landing on that page doesn’t start a download and doesn’t commit you to one. Think of it as the video’s own page — a place where you can look at it more closely and decide what to do. Nothing is saved to your device until you press Download, and you can leave the page or pick a different video at any time.
On that page you have three options, and downloading is only one of them.
Option 1: Just Watch It — Preview Without Downloading
Near the top of the page you’ll see a Preview area with a play button. Press it and VideoFetch opens the extracted video in a new browser tab, where your browser’s own video player takes over — no ads, no comments, no autoplaying sidebar, just the video.
This is perfectly normal use, and it’s all some people want. Watch the whole thing if you like. Nothing is saved, nothing counts against you, and there’s no limit on how many videos you preview. If you’re not sure which of several detected entries is the right one, previewing each is the easiest way to find out.
One small note: because the preview uses your browser’s built-in player, it depends on the browser you’re using. Current versions of Chrome, Safari, and Edge handle it fine; an older or unusual browser may not be able to play the preview. Option 2: Copy the Video’s Link
The download page also shows the video’s direct web address, with a Copy button next to it. This is the address of the video itself — not the article or page it was sitting on.
Why would you want it? A few common reasons:
- To open the video in a media player app you already use, such as VLC, which can play a link directly.
- To keep a note of where a video lives so you can come back to it later.
- To paste it into another tool or workflow of your own.
Copying the link doesn’t download anything either. You’re simply taking the address with you. Keep in mind that some video links only work for a limited time or from the original website, so if a copied link stops working later, that’s the source site’s doing, not a problem with your device.
Option 3: Download It

Changed Your Mind? Pick Another Video
The Detected Videos list stays with you on the download page. If the preview shows an ad or the wrong clip, just click a different entry and the page switches to that one. You don’t need to start a new session or paste the link again. More on that in our download tips.

Yes, completely. Extracting a video and watching it in the preview is a normal, intended way to use the tool. You’re never required to download.
Does opening the download page use up anything or start a download?

Can I preview one video and download a different one?
Yes. Preview as many as you like from the list, then download only the one you want — or none at all.
Does the copied link contain any of my information?
